This artwork was created to express the deep connection between ancient lives and our own. The young girl from Herculaneum, with her gesture inviting us to enter, becomes a silent guide into a world that seems distant yet still touches us.

Today we are hyper-connected: we can speak to anyone, anywhere, at any moment. People of the past, however, cannot answer us. They can only leave silent, discreet messages hidden in the gestures, objects, and images that have reached us. And this is what fascinates me: the idea that we must gather those signals, interpret them, and respond. It is a responsibility toward memory, toward the lives that came before us and that, despite time, still feel close. The lives of the past are not so different from those of today: centuries and cities change, but human emotions, fears, hopes, and bonds remain the same. Past and present lives are separated only by a timeline, not by emotional distance.

In this painting, the girl becomes a bridge between eras. She reminds us that human distance never changes, only time does. And she invites us to recognize what unites us: the continuity of human experience. In the end, we all belong to the same story.

Quest’opera nasce dal desiderio di raccontare il legame profondo che unisce le vite dell’antichità alle nostre. La fanciulla di Ercolano, con il suo gesto che invita ad entrare, diventa una guida silenziosa verso un mondo che sembra lontano, ma che in realtà ci sfiora ancora.

Oggi siamo iperconnessi: possiamo parlare con chiunque, ovunque, in ogni momento. Le persone del passato, invece, non possono risponderci. Possono solo affidarci messaggi silenziosi, discreti, nascosti nei gesti, nei reperti, nelle immagini che ci hanno lasciato. Ed è proprio questo che mi affascina: il fatto che siamo noi a dover raccogliere quei segnali, interpretarli e rispondere. È una responsabilità verso la memoria, verso le vite che ci hanno preceduto e che, nonostante il tempo, ci sono ancora vicine.

Le esistenze di allora non sono così diverse da quelle di oggi: cambiano i secoli e le città, ma i sentimenti, le paure, le speranze e i legami umani restano gli stessi. Le vite del passato e quelle del presente sono separate solo da una linea temporale, non dalla distanza emotiva.

In questo quadro, la fanciulla diventa un ponte tra epoche diverse. Ci ricorda che la distanza umana non cambia, cambia solo il tempo. E ci invita a riconoscere ciò che ci accomuna: la continuità dell’esperienza umana. In fondo, siamo parte della stessa storia.
